What is the Mandela Day Global Network? As per the recommendation of the Expert Group, the revised rules are to be known as "the Nelson Mandela Rules" to honour the legacy of the late President of South Africa, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, who spent 27 years in prison in the course of his struggle for global human rights, equality, democracy and the promotion of a culture of peace.









Thanks to generous donors from around the world, we were able to begin construction on the 22 April 2014, the hospital launch took place on 2nd December 2016! The call to action is as broad and as inclusive as possible — identify those in need around you and do what you can to make a difference for them.

Relevant UN bodies, other international and regional organisations, as well as civil society were invited to contribute to the process.





It is a base for the strategic partnerships of organisations with common goals aimed at globally coordinating efforts, sharing information and linking the needs to resources.



The Mandela Day strategy introduces systems for organisations to globally participate to advance the cause of Mandela Day.

Description: December 2015 - the General Assembly decides to extend the scope of Nelson Mandela International Day to also be utilized in order to promote humane conditions of imprisonment, raise awareness about prisoners being a continuous part of society, and to value the work of prison staff as a social service of particular importance.
