According to the 2019 statistics in Malaysia, our government classified our population into three main groups based on their gross monthly household income: B40 meaning bottom 40% low incomeM40 meaning medium 40% average incomeand T20 meaning top 20% high income.
This is because the T20 typically own more assets, and hence tend to grow in wealth as the economy grows.
Kumpulan isi rumah B40 juga merangkumi isi rumah miskin yang berpendapatan bulanan kurang daripada pendapatan garis kemiskinan PGK.

Been hearing about B40, M40 and T20 in the news but not sure what they mean? These refer to income groups in Malaysia, where B40 represents the bottom 40% of income earners, M40 the middle 40% and T20 the top 20%. These groups are further broken down into tiers, such as B1, B2, B3, and so on. In 2019, the mean income was RM1,849 for households in the lowest tier, and RM24,293 in the highest tier.
